BAIP News
BAIP News: Each spring we submit an annual survey to all teachers using BAIP. An important component of that survey is a series of questions seeking input on design features. The feedback varies, but is always helpful. Some comments are to add small features, but are viewed as helpful by teachers. Additional feedback of this nature is also derived from the Error Reporting feature in BAIP. We not only learn from these reports, but we pick up ideas that translate into improvements in BAIP. The annual surveys also allow teachers to offer ideas on needed new resources. Over the last three years we have responded to expressed needs for two new resources. The parent resources aligned with BAIP lessons and tutorials were developed in direct response to teacher feedback. They are now an integral part of BAIP. More recently we responding to the challenge of restructuring the tutorials to better meet the needs of students with disabilities and other students with reading difficulties. We have developed a prototype tutorial model that will soon be ready for field-testing. It is highly animated and has the following features:
1. Limited reading skills are required.
2. The tutorials are ungraded.
3. The instruction is highly visual.
4. There is a voice-over track (female voice) for all content and additional instructional information.
5. Data on student responses are collected automatically as the student progresses.
6. The animation adds color and extensive interaction.
7. The activities are varied in design (e.g., matching tasks, sorting, multiple choice, etc).
8. They are very user friendly and designed for self-pacing instruction.
As you move into the spring semester we would appreciate receiving any suggestions on new or modified features that are of major interest to you. We are not asking you to complete a form. Just share an email with us with a brief description of your idea. These can be sent to Bryan Dykman at bdykman@ku.edu. We hope the semester is going well for you and look forward to hearing from you.
