BAIP No Longer Linked With KSDE KIDS System
Unloaded Students: The "Unrecognized Student" Problem
Before teachers and/or district administrators are able to add students to classes in BAIP, students and their state ids first have to be loaded into BAIP.
If you attempt to add an unloaded student and their state id to a BAIP class you get the dreaded/confusing "Unrecognized Student" warning.
The Old Way Of Loading Students (Erratic KIDS/BAIP Automation)
Historically, student records have been loaded into BAIP automatically via a pipeline to the KSDE KIDS system. In
theory this meant all one had to do was enter a student into the KIDS system and that student would then become available in BAIP. In
reality, though, a handful of students failed to automatically move from KSDE to BAIP which lead to the "Unrecognized Student" described above.
Because districts were not in charge of loading their own students into BAIP, when these missing students did need to be uploaded (to override the failure of the KIDS/BAIP connection) district contacts were unfamiliar with the tools needed to do the job.
The New Way Of Loading Students (Complete District Control)
District will now be asked to load their students into BAIP. A single list of students in a school or district can be loaded into BAIP in mere minutes (described below). Hopefully this will lead to an increased familiarity with the "Add Students" section of the "BAIP District Tools" which will ultimatley lead to fewer "Unrecognize Student" probelms.
Instructions: How Districts Load Student Records Into BAIP
Who Loads Students?
Districts contacts
(Sign into BAIP and then hit the "Contacts" link in the upper right corner to see a list of local contacts in your district.
How Do They Load Them?
Districts contacts use the "BAIP District Tools" (
http://baip.elearndesign.org/tools) and click on the "Add Students" tab to load students into BAIP.
Students can be entered one at a time or
an excel spreadsheet can be used to easily load many students at once. Under the "Add Students" tab one can find a sample excel template and simple instructions on how to adjust student excel files you might already have.
Which Students Need To Be Loaded?
Students only need to be loaded into BAIP once. Younger students or students new to your district are more likely to need loading, but BAIP makes it easy to enter many students at once (see below). It's easiest to simply load a list of all your students and let BAIP figure out who's already been loaded who is new to the system.
Thank-you!
Thank-you for using BAIP and helping us make BAIP better. Please feel
