Tech UpdatesView Parent Feedback on Assigned Parent ActivitiesIf you've made Parent Activities available to your students's parents by assigning them (SEE "The Ins & Outs Of Using Parent Activities", BAIP Bulletin, Volume 3, Issue 2, Tech Updates) you may now be wondering if your parents are completing these activities, and how helpful they're finding them.Understanding The Feedback Parents ProvideAfter a parent uses an activity, there are varying levels of feedback a parent might provide. If they provide feedback they will either...
When a parent hits a "Completed" button, they'll be taken to a very small survey that includes 2 Likert scale questions and a text box for their comments. A parent can optionally answer either of the 2 questions and/or leave a comment, or skip the survey all together. If a parent fills out any part of this activity survey, teachers can now see that feedback in their teacher accounts. If a parent hits the "completed" button but skips answering the survey questions, a teacher will simply see that the parent has completed the activity. WARNING: If You Don't Ask For Feedback, Parents Might Not Give It To YouThe BAIP system doesn't require parents to mark activities as completed after they use them. Be aware that parents might be using assigned activities but not marking them as complete. If completion feedback is important to you, request that your parents hit the "Completed" button next to every activity they use.Viewing Feedback On Parent Activities Fig 1. New Tutorial Scores When you sign into your teacher account, you will now be able to see your parent's feedback on the activities you've made available. But how do you find that feedback? You'll go to the same place you go to view tutorials scores ("My Classes" tab >> "Manage Class" link). Fig. 1 illustrates a new set of tabs that has been added to all teacher accounts that allows teachers to toggle back and forth between tutorial scores and parent activity feedback for each of their classes. In the Fig. 1 example, the red arrow indicates that the the "Tutorial Scores" tab is highlighted which means tutorial scores are currently being displayed. By default, when you first enter a class, tutorials scores will display just as they always have. Fig 2. demonstrates what happens when you toggle the class data by clicking on the new "Parent Activities" tab. In this example, we're still inside the "Math, 3rd Hour" class, but we've gone from showing tutorial scores to parent feedback. Notice the navigation path links in the upper left of the page still say, "My Classes > Mange Math, 3rd Hour" which indicates that you're still viewing data for one your classes. Fig. 2 shows that one or more parents of Nathan Spurgin have 1) completed the parent activity, 2) answered the survey question about the "Structured Activities" part of the activity (SA), 3) answered the survey question about the "Teachable Moments" part of the activity (TM), and 4) left a comment that the teacher can popup by clicking the comment link labeled "1". ![]() Fig 2. Parent Activities Bar Now You KnowNow you know how to find feedback that your parents are leaving about the activities you've made available to them. You also know that you have to explicitly encourage your parents to mark each used activity "completed" if feedback is important to you. In the future we'll break down the information found under the "Parent Activities" tab. Thanks! |
