BAIP News

Subscription inquiries: This past week we have received inquiries about the possibility of subscribing to BAIP given that the deadline has passed. Yes, we can accommodate new subscriptions. Simply contact Cheryl Harrod at 785-864-0760 or charrod@ku.edu and she will be able to assist you. 

Alignment with National Standards: In preparation for the new national curriculum standards, currently in development and supported by 49 states, we are taking steps to ensure that we can align BAIP with those standards when they are available.  We have been revisiting the NCTM standards and the standards of ten states. This process confirms that BAIP is aligned with the general pattern of standards that are in practice today. In looking to the future as these new national standards emerge, we anticipate that we will need to expand the coverage of lessons. We will also add to the tutorials. We encourage to you to monitor your professional journals and share with us your observations of how BAIP might be strengthened as the new standards become available. 

Non-Grade Version of BAIP: Our current plan is to continue the alignment of BAIP lessons with Kansas standards on a grade level basis. However, we are also exploring the merits of developing a non-graded version. We have had an opportunity to present BAIP on several occasions at national meetings and find that there is an interest in a non-graded version. The interests tend to be along the topical structure of the NCTM standards. We will know more about the merits of such a model once the new national standards become available. If we proceed in this manner, we will also provide an index on how to access skills and concepts at different levels of difficulty.
