  • Question 1 - Can consideration be given to the readability level of the parent tip sheets?

Response: The readability issue was raised at the KSDE Assessment Fall Conference earlier this week. Upon returning to the office, we used the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level Readability instrument to access the resource. We found that the readability range for the parent tip sheets was from fifth grade to seventh grade. Although this evaluation has only been done for the sixteen tips sheets, we are currently in the process of assessing the readability level of all of the parent activities.

  • What were the guidelines for the development of the vocabulary words?

Response:  The inclusion of new vocabulary words always begins with the KSDE glossary of terms that are aligned with the state standards. However, the process does not stop here as we then send these words to subject matter experts who provide edits and suggestions for graphics to clarify and create a greater understanding for those new entries.
