BAIP NewsBAIP Goes National and Pilot Field Test Data BAIP Goes National and Changes Name: The Riverside Publishing Company, distributor of such well known and widely used products as the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS), the Cognitive Abilities Tests (CogAT), the Gates-MacGinitie Reading Tests (GMRT), and the Woodcock-Johnson III is now distributing BAIP mathematics. Riverside is owned by Houghton-Mifflin-Harcourt and is a major publisher of education texts and materials. The new name for BAIP is Instruct4Success (I4S). We are very pleased to have BAIP become a member of the Riverside Publishing company family of products. In the process of developing a relationship with the Riverside Publishing Company we were able to retain Kansas as a test bed for future work. The eDL will remain the research and development unit for BAIP/I4S. Kansas districts who subscribe to BAIP through the eLearning Design Lab (eDL) will be the first to receive access to all new products, additions to current versions and new versions. We will continue to retain the BAIP name for the Kansas subscribers. The price for BAIP Kansas subscribers through the eDL will also be lower than the national price. Our goal this coming year is to complete science and to expand mathematics to include lessons, tutorials and parent resources aligned with the new national Common Core standards. Pilot Field Test Data: See the attached PDF of a study completed by Doug Glasnapp that compares the performance of several sub-groups across the 2008-2009 pilot testing of BAIP. Summer Access to BAIP: As the academic year comes to a close, we have updates to share with you. We have received inquiries about how long districts and schools will be able to access BAIP when the spring semester comes to a close. It has been decided that all BAIP resources will be available until August 1 for our 2009-2010 subscribers. This will allow current subscribers to use BAIP throughout the summer. BAIP Subscription Process: The BAIP subscription process for the 2010-2011 academic school years is now in progress. Many districts have already renewed their subscriptions. We are also receiving new subscribers. Many districts may not have funding available until after July 1st. We will work with those districts. Cheryl Harrod coordinates the subscription process. Please contact her for any questions about the subscription process. She will be happy to visit with you. You may contact her at charrod@ku.edu or 785-864-0760. New Initiatives: We continue our efforts to seek funding for future development and to reduce subscription costs for Kansas districts. We have received one grant award with one pending and another proposal in process. Activities are underway to develop pre-assessments and post tests for all BAIP mathematics support materials. We are also seeking support to continue working on a KAMM tutorial model that reduces cognitive load and is also highly animated. School’s Out! It has been a good year for BAIP and we hope it has been the same for you. Best wishes for the summer and we look forward to working with you in the fall! |
