How to Tell Your BAIP Parents About the BAIP parents Site

In past tech updates we've described the BAIP Parent Site (http://baip.elearndesign.org/_PARENTS) and how parents go about creating their own parent accounts so they can access parent activities assigned to them by teachers (Vol 3, Iss 2, 9/2009).

So how do teachers tell the guardians of their students that this great resource is out there? Ideally one could send out a mass email but some guardians don't have email accounts or they chose to keep their email addresses private or perhaps their emails change frequently. Our solution involves providing teachers with a sample digital letter to parents (formatted as a Microsoft Word file) that briefly describes the BAIP Parent Site and tells parents how to set up their accounts.

If districts keep reliable emails lists of guardians they can email this letter, otherwise they can print it out and hand it to guardians in person.

First teachers need to sign into BAIP from the BAIP Teachers & Students sign in page (http://baip.elearndesign.org/). After signing in teacher are taken to their "Current Classes" listing under the "My Classes" tab by default.

A new link (Fig. 1) has been added to the left side of this page entitled "Letter To Parents (.doc)". Simply click on that link and the sample letter will be downloaded onto your machine! That's all there is to it.
