BAIP News
In the last issue of BAIP, we shared our plans to seek support for the development of new BAIP resources in mathematics and our approach to field testing those new products. The proposal was submitted to the Institute for Education Science. Our attention has now shifted to a comprehensive study of BAIP in its current form. We were pleased with the survey results last spring regarding the positive impact of BAIP after only 12 weeks of use. However, we allowed teachers to use BAIP in ways that best met their needs. This was by design. However, because we did not control their use, we were not able to match results with levels of use by teachers and students.
We have invited a small number of districts to participate as partners in a study this year that controls different uses of BAIP. We will look at the effects of fully implemented BAIP classes with and without the use of BAIP tutorials. Our goal is to learn as much as we can about BAIP. The information gathered will allow us to continue to strengthen BAIP and best determine how to further assist teachers in the classroom. The study will include a revised version of the tutorials. We have strengthened the instructional impact of the design. However, the tutorial functions much like the current version. It will be made available to all BAIP users when released for the study. Also, we have been working on KAMM lessons for students with disabilities. At this time, the KAMM lessons will only be available to districts participating in this study. Our goal is to have the study underway in early November.
