BAIP News

BAIP Supported for 2008-09
The Kansas State Department of Education will again be supporting the BAIP program in mathematics. Emails have been sent to your superintendent as well as curriculum coordinators that alert them to the procedures for   registering your district. Last spring 187 school districts participated in the use of BAIP. This resulted in 88,300 students having access to BAIP related instruction.

Teacher Feedback
We want to thank each of you for your feedback and suggestions through out last spring, as you used BAIP in your classrooms. One thousand and fifty one teachers completed the end of the year survey. This was extremely helpful.  Many of the changes that you have suggested been made and we continue to work on others.

Improvement and Expansion of BAIP
This summer the BAIP staff has been focused on the development of new BAIP products and tools as well as revising the tutorial model. The new products include expanded resources for students with disabilities (including KAMM lessons) and resources for parents of all students that will be aligned with the lessons and tutorials. See the Content Update for a description of the new products and the revised tutorials.

Fall field-testing
While the new products will not be available this year, we are planning to field test them late this fall. If you wish to be considered for field-testing, please advise your superintendent or BAIP contact person to communicate your interest to Ed Meyen at meyen@ku.edu .The tasks associated with field-testing will involve using the new resources and responding to items concerning their use and effectiveness. Every effort will be made to minimize the time demands on those who participate in the field test.

Webinars
We learned from reviewing the responses to the teacher survey and from discussions with teachers that several of you would appreciate an opportunity to interact with members of the BAIP staff to learn about the many components of the BAIP lessons and how to best use the tutorials. Consequently, we are creating a series of webinars.

The focus of the webinars will be on the many features of BAIP and how teachers can most effectively use BAIP. The plan is to provide a brief PowerPoint that will be standard for each webinar. During each session, a BAIP staff person will take participants through a sample  lesson, tutorial, and discuss the management system. Participants will be able to see the sample lesson and tutorial as specific elements are highlighted. Each webinar will end with a question and answer session. . For more information on the webinar sessions, please contact Diana Greer at dgreer@ku.edu.
