BAIP Tech Updates
A major investment is being made to accommodate your needs and to maximize BAIP as a helpful resource. In some cases, we respond to suggestions or questions from users by making a change that is transparent, but resolves the concern. In other situations, we will make a technical change or an addition that requires an explanation. In addition, we may add a new element in which directions are needed. This column will focus on those changes, additions or corrections that warrant your attention. Following are examples of Hot Topics you can expect to find in future issues.
Add Missing Students
Many teachers have emailed us saying they’re receiving “Unrecognized ID” error messages when they attempt to enter valid student IDs into their classes. These students are often new to the state, or new to the state education system in some other regard.
So why, when you enter these students into KSDE’s KIDS System, do the generated state id numbers not show up in BAIP? In short, the answer has to do with state security concerns. BAIP is only allowed to download nightly students entered into KIDS under “Test Collections”. Students entered into KIDS in any other manner won’t show up in BAIP.
So how do you get these students into BAIP? We’ve created a tool for authorized individuals in your district that can be used to add these missing students. How do you find who is authorized in your district? Sign into BAIP and click on the new Contacts link on the top right of any page. In addition to seeing emails and phone numbers for the BAIP main office staff, you’ll also see district contacts. These individuals are authorized to add your missing students.
You can direct your district contacts to sign in at the BAIP District Tools page:

They can click the “Add Students” tab and follow the instructions provided.
Teachers Still Pending?
Some of you responsible for entering teachers into BAIP have told us that some, many, or all of your teachers are perpetually listed as “Pending”. What does this mean?
“Pending” means that an email was sent to that teacher with the BAIP URL, a unique username and password, but that they haven’t signed into BAIP yet. This might be happening for a number of reasons:
- The teacher got the email notification but never signed in. You can go to the teacher registration site and send out new notifications to these individuals. Know that once a teacher has signed in they won’t get any of the notification resends that you really only need your pending teachers to see.
- A spam filter blocked the email. While individual teachers might have spam blockers on their desktops, the big issue here is with district email services.
Some districts have been blocking all emails sent from info@elearndesign.org. If your district is having this problem, contact the provider of your district email services and ask them to allow these emails through.
If you notice that all or most of your teachers are pending, you might want to send out some refortifications and check with a pending teacher to see if the email got through. If not, contact your district email providers as just described
- The last possibility a teacher might fail to get their email notifications is if our BAIP email server failed to send the email out in the first place. We have continually monitored our machines, and to date it appears as if all emails are being sent out and handed off appropriately.
Thanks for using BAIP and thanks for helping us make BAIP better. Please feel free to contact me with your questions and comments.
